IEMA’s Certificate in Environmental Management course will give you the detailed knowledge of environment and sustainability that you’re looking for. As well as improving your knowledge, this course takes it one step further and provides you with the ability to apply environmental management and assessment tools that are needed to be an effective practitioner. This course leads directly to IEMA Practitioner Membership.

This internationally recognised course is designed for experienced environmental professionals looking to progress their career. During the course, you will be a Practitioner Applicant Member and when you successfully complete the course you will be invited to progress your Practitioner Member application (REnvP is an additional cost).

The course is perfect for anyone wishing to upgrade their IEMA membership to Practitioner Level (PIEMA) and Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP).

Course Modules

A practical approach is adopted to enable organisations to improve their environmental performance and reduce their impacts, both strategically and operationally.

Module 1

Fundamentals of sustainability, business and governance

This module explains the implications of global trends for the environment, for society, for the economy and for organisations. The module also explains the role of the Environment/Sustainability practitioner in overcoming these challenges. The module looks at sustainable business governance models, their underlying principles and their relationship with organisations, products and services.

Module 2

Environmental principles, policy and legislation

The module explains environmental principles and their relationship with organisation, products and services. This module also explains significant policy and legislation and implications for organisations, products and services.

Module 3

Environmental management, assessment tools and skills

The module explains the tools, techniques, systems and practices used to develop sustainable products and services and improve sustainability performance. The module also looks at the role of innovation and in developing those products and services.

The module demonstrates how to collect and critically analyse data and report information. It covers how to identify problems and assess opportunities that deliver innovation and determine the most effective ways of communicating the findings.

The module showcases how to apply or implement tools, techniques, systems and practices to identify opportunities and risks, as well as implement change and transformation.

ASSESSMENTS

There are three knowledge-based assignments for each taught module. This is in the form of a written document for each of the three modules, to be completed after each week of tuition. You will then need to complete an Assessment of Competence based on work experience, this is taken after all other modules have been successfully completed. This is to qualify for Practitioner Membership of IEMA (PIEMA).

Learners will receive their marks approximately sixty days after their submission.

Entry Requirements

You will need a foundation level of environmental and/or sustainability knowledge.

It is recommended to have taken the IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management or similar course, or to have gained equivalent knowledge and skills via work experience.
